To Beard Or Not To Beard

Yeah, I know it's corny, but what'ya gonna do? So I did it, I finally did it, after nearly 4 months I shaved my beard. Wow, was that a freaky experience! It was like when people have plastic surgery and don't recognize their reflection in the mirror. I totally didn't recognize the person looking back at me! Very weird. It's been 3 days and I'm just now coming to grips with my new/old look. Problem. Long hair with beard? Good look, kind of hippie meets rocker. Long hair without beard? Bad look, kinda mullet-esque ala a non-recurring character on the Partridge Family. Why did I do it you ask? Well, the honest answer is I have a dentist appointment this week and couldn't bear to put them through "The Beard Experience". I always look out for people using high speed electric drills near my face, they don't need to be antagonized in any way. (By the way, "The Beard Experience", worst ride at Disney World ever!) Look for the beard again this fall! I promise it will make a comeback.

10,000 and Counting

The portfolios on my Dripbook site just received their 10,000th viewer, (that's 20,000 eyeballs! assuming no pirates) and I'm not sure if that's alot or a little but I did think it was worth mentioning. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to view my work on Dripbook, (even the pirates).

Barbeque Schmarbeque

Memorial day is filled with backyard BBQ's and trips to the beach. I on the other hand spent yesterday shooting two amazing girls in Brooklyn. First was Katya, who flew in from Russia the previous night and had never been to NYC before. Even though she was suffering some major jet-lag, she had the best attitude and was super sweet? "Why do so many people speak Spanish here?" she asked, "I don't know Katya, ask Lou Dobbs." Next was Amelia, with those gorgeous blue-green eyes and that accent, I could have shot her all day just to listen to her speak! And she moved like a dream. What is it with these Aussie models, they rock! That's it Martin, move over buddy, I'm coming to Australia. . . . . . Although that 33 hour flight is going to be brutal. All in all I must say my memorial day was quite a wonderful experience. And I got a pretty bad ass farmer tan to boot. . . . . . . . . p.s. you can view the story "Do You Believe In Rapture" here.

New Bio Pic?

Everyone says I shouldn't use it because you can't see what I look like! I say that's probably a good thing. . . . . . . . . . . . You can make out the tambourine though, and isn't that what photography is really all about. I don't even know what that means!

Rain Rain Go Away

I figured out why people come in all different shapes and sizes. It's so as we walk down the street in the rain, our umbrellas don't all hit into one another because we are all the same height. Makes sense right? God was so smart to have had that foresight. . . . . . . . . And can we please leave the golf umbrellas in our golf bags, its 6th ave not the 18th fairway. Don't get God angry by screwing up his whole street/umbrella master plan.

Steampunk

Here are a couple images from a Steampunk story I shot. What is Steampunk you ask? Well, I'm still not sure, except to say that I think its where the Industrial Revolution meets Jayne Eyre. Do to some inclement weather, we shot half in my apt and half on my roof. I can't wait to see the final result! . . . . . I think a stove pipe hat would be a good look for me? So Gangs of New York.

For All You Creatives Out There

There are alot of inspirational statements and slogans out there like "Without risk there is no reward" etc. I saw this one and I liked the fact that it centered around the act of creativity. We can all use an inspirational kick in the pants now and then. So here is my figurative boot to your behind.

I Knew It. I Knew It.

I knew there was a reason I was getting so much attention lately. People like me better now that I have a beard! That's what I have been missing all these years. All those dateless years in High school, all I needed was to hit puberty and I would have been prom king! . . . . . . or at least had a date for prom. I must admit however, it's love or hate. I either have girls coming up to me asking if I'm in a band or wanting to stroke my beard, others tend to cross the street and clutch their purse, there is no middle ground. If you would like a t-shirt featuring the above image go here.

Urban Art

I am going to start posting images from the web that I find either inspirational or just plain rad. I will try to keep fashion photography out of the mix because, duh, my work should inspire you enough. The first post is all about urban art which I'm fascinated by and jealous of. They're are some really creative people out there who look to create art in the most mundane places and above you will find an example. You can also discover more if you click here.

Camilla Too!!!

I just found out that people (heart) Camilla too! The tags are the best, "beauty, black and white, girl, tank top". That is a great way to describe my ideal shoot. Martyna's isn't too bad either, "beauty, eyes, girl, minimal, soft".

Blue Monday

Is one pair not enough? Are 5 too many? I decided this morning to go out and buy a pair of jeans. I never buy anything for myself, heck, I've styled so many of my shoots that I'm more comfortable buying womens clothes than my own! (I should have probably kept that to myself). But I made the trek up to Barney's today and what did I discover but an unannounced, one day, first time ever, 40% off sale on like everything in the mens dept. including jeans! You know those scenes when bridal shops have their major sales and all those woman beat each other down to get their wedding dress? Yeah, it was a lot like that, but instead of inexpensive wedding dresses it was over-priced priced denim, and instead of group of desperate, crazy women it was me! I guess the karma gods were telling me that the 2 pair of jeans I always wear needed some friends and it was my job to supply those friends. Hey, anything I can do to help.

Shout Out!

Big shout out to Martin Bleasdale from Australia. I've been getting a number of hits from his journal from all these Aussies so I thought I would return the favor via New York. Who knows, maybe I can crash at one of their places when I head out there. I always wanted to be a surfer and Sydney seems like a good place to start. Plus with all the fashion mags they seem to have out there and all the beautiful people I see on Martins site, I think I would feel right at home. Check out his story The Sundowner and try and tell me it's not gorgeous.

Hooray My Favorite Commercial!

This is by far my favorite commercial, probably of all time. It makes me laugh every time I see it. It has been on hiatus for about a year, but I just saw it on ESPN and now you can see it anytime you want. I'm so excited to watch TV again! OK, maybe that's going a little too far.
